Patty and JT caught the flu a couple years ago.
It was January.
Casey was in Afghanistan.
Fortunately, the flu itself wasn't too bad.
But, Patty ended up with a gnarly ear infection and the Tamiflu caused JT to throw up repeatedly.
After the vomiting began, I sat down at the computer and tried to determine how bad a mother I'd be if I just didn't give my kids the Tamiflu.
And you know what? I realized we'd never fill another prescription for it.
DISCLAIMER: this is my informed opinion, please make your own decisions.
If you take the time, you can read on the Tamiflu website that use of the drug within 48 hours of onset can help a person recover 1.3 to 1.5 days faster. It also says it can cause all kinds of side effects. Including seizures.
Now, for me, getting better by a day and a half simply isn't worth the risks associated with taking this stuff.
Wow, I did not know that!!
ReplyDeleteGotta say I was really surprised by the info on the website. Just felt kind of like i'd been cheated that it really didn't do more for us, you know? I hope we never encounter the flu, but at least I'll know that Tamiflu is no magic cure!
