Second Day Update

You know, it's gotta be a bad day when you're the parent and you're in the guidance counselor's office crying into her box of tissues!  Whew, what a morning I've had.

Need less to say, Patty was clinging to me like stink on a turd (sorry, I hope you at least smiled at that, I was going to put it another way, but I think it might be a racial slur and so I opted for the gross one instead).  Thankfully, Patty's teacher is super sweet and she went above and beyond getting Patty soothed and redirected enough for me to get out of the classroom.  Of course, by that point I was already bawling and planning my escape to Canada under the cover of darkness.  LOL.

I waited in the hall in case Patty got hysterical and to try and get my composure back.  Patty's resource teacher filled me in on her first day and gave me the reassurance that Patty hadn't just cried uncontrollably all day.  Seriously, that was what I had been envisioning.  That, yes, Patty had been sad and said she missed her mommy (makes my heart so happy and sad at the same time!) and that she had done really well considering it was all brand new to her.  And I was so relieved to hear that she did eat her lunch, you just don't know how relieved that made me!

So, I was still sniveling just a little when I stopped in to speak with the guidance counselor about the bus thing and of course found myself in tears again!  Lord, it must be a tough job when you've got to deal with crying, barely rational parents!  Oh me.  Thankfully, between the gc and the principal, I was even more reassured to hear about Patty's first day and that it had indeed been more good than tears.  It's just more than any mother could ask for.  It really is.

Guys, if you're reading this, THANK YOU!

Update to the update:  Patty had a good rest of the day once the separation anxiety faded away.  In fact, I even received a photo of her beautiful, smiling face in my email!  There's nothing like seeing a smile on your child's face!
