I "heart" Chick Fila AND Equality

Do you ever feel like we live in a nation that just has to discriminate against somebody?  We had wonderful elected officials and fabulously polarizing community leaders who got our nation past the discrimination of the civil rights era.  Think Elton and Brad will be the face of the new inequality?

Sorry, this post really is about the Chick Fil a craziness we've been seeing this past week or so.  I posted that link on my Facebook earlier this week and this is what I had to say about it:  i love chick fila. and i'll eat at chick fila regardless of the personal beliefs of chick fila employees. i have a brain in my head and can make a pretty informed decision about the things i believe are right or wrong in this world. and i believe chick fila chicken sandwiches are right, and that every a$$ hole deserves to have an opinion about whatever he wants to have an opinion about.

And I also posted to Facebook:  You know, i don't remember a lot of things from school...but whatever happened to the "separation of church and state"? remember learning about that? it's one of those principals our country is founded on. isn't it? when did it get to be such a horrible thing? anyone know how many wars have been waged in the name of religion and how many lives have been lost because people can't learn to tolerate one another? if keeping religion out of our government can keep my husband, my soldier safe, i am all for supporting the separation of church and state.

To which a long time friend of mine commented a correction to my history lesson!  Thanks, Amy, I know I can always count on you!  So, I did a little googling and added:  Sorry, I should have said, remember learning about the First Amendment, the one that says government shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof....which was adopted in 1791, man those liberals go waaaaay back!

Yeah, I know, what's my point.  My point is that I believe your personal beliefs should be personal.  If you are a business executive or politician, your personal beliefs about morality should remain personal.  Your business and your personal beliefs should remain separate, just as our government should remain separate from our religion.  I have never appreciated the emphasis on a presidential candidates reglious background when election time roles around.  To me, what he or she did on Saturday night makes a bigger difference than knowing he/she is sitting in a pew on Sunday morning.  I believe having religion in your life doesn't make you a good person, like wise, not having religion in your life doesn't make you a bad person.  It is the things you do in your life the make you a good person.  And that's what I have to say about that.
