Data Usage is Killing Me!

After a lot of googling, I see that lots of folks are having trouble with their iPhone and its mysterious data usage.  After some more googling, I am attempting to prevent the data usage by setting my phone to access the www only via wifi.  How do you do that?  Changing my phone settings was actually easier than getting this YouTube video to load on my computer.

The titles were a bit different on my phone than the video, but basically go to your Settings icon, then into General, then into Cellular, and change Cellular Data from On to Off.

You won't be able to use any online apps unless you're in range of wireless Internet, but that should (fingers crossed) keep the phone from mysteriously using data.  If your phone can't connect to the Internet, the phone shouldn't be able to use data, right?

I also checked each app in my Settings list, scroll toward the bottom and you should see some of the apps you've installed on your phone.  I checked each one to see if there is a setting about updates or anything that I thought might be connecting to the Internet on its own.  Basically, I changed everything to off with the exception of sound.

Something else I've noticed are the banner ads on all of my "free" apps.  JT and Patty love playing the games and I've downloaded several of the "free" ones.  Most of these free games have banner ads that run constantly while you're playing the game.  So, if you're not on wifi, these games may be using your data, too.  Turning off the Cellular Data should disable those banner ads, but I wonder if it will also disable those games?  Either way, we can live without the game if it saves data usage!

Side note:  I like to use the spell check function here in blogger before I "publish" my posts and I am always fascinated by the things I don't know how to spell!  But, today, I'm just wondering why Internet needs to be capitalized to make spell check happy?
