Modified Recess

I happily received a call from Patty's doc at Vandy this afternoon and she had a really great idea for helping Patty navigate her recess time.  It was really quite simple.  Make a schedule to help Patty focus her playtime attention on the different areas of the playground.  A kind of to-do list for her time at recess.  Those folks at Vandy are so smart.

With only a handful of days left this school year (ten and counting!) I've decided to save that recommendation for next year.  That'll give me time to practice it with her over the summer.  Who detests the playground more than me?  I guess it's not so much the playground that I don't like; it's the heat I don't like!

I did get out with the kids yesterday for a minute.  We drew a hop scotch on the driveway.  Patty immediately began to fill  in the blocks with numbers.  It made me so happy!  And I loved watching her hop.  It looked kind of like skiing.  She'd hop with both feet from one box to the next, turning her body left and then right.  So cute.  I think next time we're going to put the alphabet in the boxes instead.  That will be one long hop scotch!

We had another great surprise yesterday, too!  JT counted all the way to 13 for the first time.  Usually, his counting is all over the place.  Casey and I just stared at each other, amazed.  Of course, we were counting the days on the calendar until a planned trip to Toys R Us.  Guess he just needed the right kind of motivation!  I had to be sure to tell Ms. A in preschool today, because I owe it all to her!

If you haven't heard, it's Teacher Appreciation week so be sure you tell your teachers how much you appreciate them!
