You Need to Read This

I have just been perusing the SurfKY News website and stumbled upon one of the smartest things I have ever read.  You need to read it, too.  It's called Letter to the Editor by Shaun Roberts.  Just click that pretty blue text and it should open a new window directly to the article.  I'm going to have to find out which district Mr. Roberts magistrates, because I'm really hoping it's my district.  I will never pretend to follow the politics here in our great county, but I am in love with Mr. Roberts take on a couple things going on locally.

Mr. Roberts says that county officials are urging county library to move into the old courthouse. And I think that's a great idea. A GREAT idea.  I could never understand why the county library moved to the mall in the first place.  I mean, I have been in malls in every city I have visited and have never seen a county library in a mall.  I did see a Walmart in a couple malls, and thought it was just dandy.  I doubt they are still there, it's been a few years, but I really liked the setup.  But, the county library?  If our mall had a chain bookstore, there would be no library in our mall.  Barnes and Noble, if you're reading this, I hear there's a nice courthouse available for occupation.  The courthouse is a beautiful structure with ample room for anything the library could possibly need.  It would be a front row attraction for our county seat, it sits right on Main St.  I don't know when that courthouse was built, but it's part of our historic culture.  It'd just be a shame to see it sitting empty and unused.  Housing the library is an excellent way to preserve it's legacy.  Evansville has a library in a beautiful old building and I admire it every time we pass it on the way to Target.  Think of the possibilities?

I don't think you want me to get started on the proposed sports complex.  Thank you Mr. Roberts for addressing it!  I read somewhere that the county was hiring a local agency to contact the people of Hopkins County to find out if we'd be on board with donating funds to pay for that sports complex.  If they call me, I'll be yelling NO so loud my neighbors will hear it.  That complex is supposed to cost a lot of money and there is no guarantee that it will ever make any money.  I mean, the building just down the road from the site is caving into the ground.  What is the county going to do when the sink holes begin on the soccer field?  If this monstrosity gets built, I hope they throw in some random sculptures, call them "art", and claim it's our way of enriching the lives of the youth in our area.

Thank you Mr. Roberts for stating the obvious, when no one else seems to understand it.  And can someone please tell me where District 5 is?  I want to check property listings.
