As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I am not a tweeter, or I don't twitter, or however else you want to say it. But, I keep hearing about these things called "hashtags" and I always think to myself, isn't that the pound symbol? You know, on your phone you have the pound "#" button or the star "*" button. Duh, right? Wrong! It's so much more complicated than that!
Well, it really isn't complicated. It's really just silly. If you're on Twitter, you can use the "#" to "tag" a specific set of words in your tweet. And, if I'm understanding the wiki explanation, you can then search for any tweets that have the same hashtag. For example, if I tweeted....
I can not believe that some people in appointed positions in state government think it is ok to forward your email to other individuals in local government without first asking for your permission to share your email #HowRude
and/or something like
I don't think the governor should be allowed to appoint inconsiderate people to high positions #HowRude
I could then search #HowRude and see if anyone else had used the same hashtag in one of their tweets. It's really kind of useless unless tweeters frequently use the same hashtags. I mean, what good is a random hashtag? Although, a good hashtag would spread like a bad spam email saying you'll win mega money if you forward this email to ten of your besties. #LOL
And, "hashtag" is not a word! #StupidHashtag
I do think you could have a nice drinking game based on searching for extremely weird hashtags. Here's how you'd play. When it's your turn, you think of the strangest hashtag imaginable (like #BaldPigs), and then you have to take a drink for every 100 common hashtags posted on Twitter. #DrinkingGames
